Official Rules:
There are really only two things that change: Rule #1 and
Rule #2. Other than that, it's all the same. Enjoy.
This is a league to make the game more enjoyable, and to make the pace of play quicker, so use common sense in relation to the rules. If you think what you are doing is cheating, then you are most likely cheating. Please respect the whole group and don’t cheat. It pisses everyone off.
1) FIRST HOLE - You are allowed two shots off of the first tee without penalty. Hit them both and pick whichever one you like better.
2) OUT OF BOUNDS / HAZARDS / INCLUDING WATER – IF YOU LEAVE THE TEE BOX AND YOU DON'T FIND YOUR BALL, THE GROUP DECIDES WHERE YOU LIKELY WERE AND YOU DROP, TAKE PENALTY AND HIT YOUR THIRD SHOT.
SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS "THE TAYLOR RULE":
YOU MAY USE A "MULLIGAN" OFF THE TEE BOX WHENEVER YOU WANT, BUT IT IS WHAT WE CALL A MULLIGAN +1 OR TAYLOR RULE.
MEANING - You will be hitting your 2nd shot off the tee box and not your first shot again. You can use this Mulligan +1 for anything off the TEE BOX.
A shank,
A ball you top and it goes 15 feet,
A ball that goes into woods, water, house, car.
You may use it on a Par 3, 4, or 5.
ONLY OFF THE TEE BOX.
ONCE YOU SAY YOU ARE USING THIS RULE THAT FIRST BALL IS DEAD/OUT OF PLAY/YOU CAN'T USE IT/REGARDLESS OF WHAT HAPPENS ON YOUR SECOND HIT.
If you shank your 2nd one off a the tee box on a par 5, hit your 3rd shot from the tee box. It's a long shot, but if you get a birdie (before the penalties), then you would get a bogie after accessing the penalties and salvage a point.
HERE IS WHERE IT GETS CONFUSING, BUT IT'S SIMPLE (I PROMISE):
PROVISIONAL SHOT:
You are unsure if your ball is in play or not and you want to hit a provisional shot, (NOT A MULLIGAN +1). Hit your provisional shot.
IF YOUR FIRST BALL IS IN PLAY YOU MUST USE IT, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. I DON'T CARE HOW BAD THE LIE IS, IF IT'S IN BOUNDS, THEN YOU MUST PLAY IT.
IF YOUR BALL IS NOT FOUND, AND YOUR PROVISIONAL SHOT IS IN BOUNDS AND PLAYABLE, THEN YOU ARE HITTING YOUR 3RD SHOT FROM WHERE YOUR BALL IS. (YOU GET THE TAYLOR RULE OFF THE TEE BOX)
IF YOUR ORIGINAL SHOT IS OUT OF BOUNDS AND YOUR PROVISIONAL SHOT IS OUT OF BOUNDS, YOUR GROUP GUESSTIMATES WHERE YOU WENT OUT OF BOUNDS, YOU TAKE A PENALTY FROM YOUR PROVISIONAL SHOT, DROP AND YOU ARE HITTING YOUR 4TH SHOT.
HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE.
3) DIRTY BALLS – You are more than welcome to clean and place in the fairway from your TEE shot. If you are in the rough don't place your ball in the fairway. If you are on a slop don't move it to level ground. If your ball is clean don't move it just to have a better lie. If your ball is on the ground don't put it back up on a tee like Jimmy Knight. Common sense, don't just keep messing with your balls because you can.
4) BUNKERS - Some courses are better at keeping their bunkers than others. If you end up in a bunker and their is water in the bunker, then move and place is fine. COMMON SENSE comes into play again. If you are plugged, so sorry, if you are on the lip, so sorry, if you don't like your lie, so sorry.
5) TEE BOX - Please check each course page for the appropriate tee box.
*** If you are 60 or older, and you commonly play the senior tees, then you may play the senior tees. If you commonly play the white tees, then play the designated tees each month that are posted on this website.
6) PUTTING – EVERYTHING MUST BE PUTTED....... NO GIMMES, THIS RULE REALLY IS VERY IMPORTANT. YES, THIS MEANS THE EASY ONE FOOTERS AS WELL.

6) PUTTING – EVERYTHING MUST BE PUTTED....... NO GIMMES, THIS RULE REALLY IS VERY IMPORTANT. YES, THIS MEANS THE EASY ONE FOOTERS AS WELL.
In this example, I have illustrated our MULLIGAN +1 RULE that is utilized in the league. You can always use a MULLIGAN +1 from the tee box. It is not a typical free shot, as you would be hitting your 2nd shot off the tee box, not your first shot like a true Mulligan.
Example 1) You shank it right into the woods. A) You can drop right where you went into the woods and hit your 3rd shot, OR B) You can hit your 2nd shot from the tee box (NOT YOUR 3rd) and hope you pipe one right down the middle. Example 2) Your shot goes down the fairway and then goes towards OUT OF BOUNDS. You DO NOT get to guess your distance. You can hit your 2nd shot from the tee box and hope you hit in the fairway. You may always hit a provisional shot if you are unsure. If you find your original ball IN BOUNDS, you must play it. Example 3) You hit into the water that runs across the fairway. You can drop in front of the water and you would then be hitting your 3rd shot, or hit your 2nd shot from the tee box if you believe you can carry that water hazard. |
Water Hazards: (Weiss Rule)
Example 1: If you go right into the water, you must drop where you entered and hit your 3rd shot OR hit your 2nd shot from the tee box. If this were a par 3, you can likely get a big advantage if you utilize the mulligan and hit your 2nd from the tee box, rather than your 3rd shot from the hazard. Example 2: You travel over land and then go into the water. You have the same options as example one. Take the distance, drop, and hit your 3rd shot OR hit your 2nd shot from the tee box and hope for a better result. |
